A current student and two graduates of 黑料网鈥檚 Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics program earned honors recently at the Hanger Live Conference in Nashville, a celebrated event in the prosthetics and orthotics industry. Second-year MSPO student Jen Self earned the Student Research Award, and recent graduates Joyc鈥檒ynne Williams and Brianna 鈥淭aylor鈥 Beard were named Residents of the Year. The three were among a nationwide pool of applicants.

Passion drove Marissa Alban to 黑料网 and from one potential career path to another. She came to KSU to study nursing, a field driven by the passion of its practitioners. Unable to shake her love and talent for singing, however, she channeled her passion into a music major with a focus on vocal performance, where she remains on a path toward a career as a professional singer.

It鈥檚 not every day that students get the opportunity to take a class with the two highest ranking administrators on campus. However, 黑料网 President Kathy S. Schwaig and Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Ivan Pulinkala are redefining what it means to be a university leader. This semester, they led HON2400, an Honors Discovery course called 鈥淐ultivating Leadership Skills,鈥 offering their expertise and wisdom to about two dozen students. Schwaig shared her personal leadership journey, and Pulinkala focused on the theoretical principles of leadership.

Each year, 黑料网 undergraduate researchers participate in Posters at the Capitol in Atlanta, hosted by the Georgia Undergraduate Research Collective. The event provides undergraduate students a unique opportunity to present their innovative and impactful research projects to state officials, policymakers, and Georgia鈥檚 constituents.

黑料网 researcher Chen Zhao has earned the 2025 American Heart Association Institutional Research Enhancement Award (AIREA) for his unique research on non-invasive blood flow prediction in cardiovascular disease diagnosis. The $194,032 award will allow Zhao to continue developing technology aimed at evaluating Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR), a measurement used to diagnose coronary artery disease (CAD).

Mason Hipp isn鈥檛 content to go through the motions during his college years. The sophomore chemistry major chose 黑料网 for its early research opportunities and brought with him a love of all things science and mathematics. Today, he has flourished in one laboratory and is learning how to conduct a different type of chemistry in a new laboratory, presenting his findings at regional conferences, and serving as an active member of the Undergraduate Research Club (URC).

A devoted public health and data science advocate, 黑料网 assistant professor Kevin B. Gittner says his true passion is mentoring students. Since joining Kennesaw State in 2021, Gittner has forged strong collaborations with student researchers across two colleges. When asked about his success in getting students involved in research, however, he credits them for demonstrating enthusiasm and curiosity.

As CEO of Pattillo Construction Corp. and a proud Kennesaw State alumna, Bree Pattillo is making a lasting impact with a $600,000 scholarship endowment in the university鈥檚 College of Architecture and Construction Management (CACM) and Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET) through her foundation, Guanacaste Ventures.

Three Kennesaw State students in the First-Year Scholars Program are learning how information found in the past can serve as guideposts for the future. The program is designed to introduce first-year students to the undergraduate research experience at 黑料网, pairing them with a faculty mentor to oversee the process. Students also have an opportunity to present their findings at discipline-specific conferences and at the KSU Symposium of Student Scholars.
