What is Hopscotch 4-AP Research?

Hopscotch 4-AP Research is designed to guide your AP Research students in developing strong, well-structured research designs for their projects. Created by the Interactive Research Methods Lab in the Bagwell College of Education at 黑料网, this tool was made possible through the support of a Grand Challenges Interdisciplinary Seed Grant from KSU鈥檚 Office of Research.

Hopscotch 4-AP Research is based on , a conceptual model and a web tool created to support novice researchers in the development of well-informed research designs?

How does Hopscotch 4-AP Research work?

  1. Ask your students to explore each step of the Hopscotch model by clicking on the individual components. Each step includes a brief video explaining its key elements.
  2. After watching a video, students can access additional curated resources by clicking on 鈥淐heck Additional Resources鈥 (if using a laptop or computer) or scanning the corresponding QR codes (if using a mobile device). These interactive materials are designed to help students begin reflecting on the components of their own research studies.
  3. Once ready, they can click 鈥淕enerate a Research Design鈥 to create a digital version of their study, which will be sent directly to their email.
  4. Remind them that they can generate as many versions of their design as needed.

Note: Students typically begin by engaging with Step One to guide their initial review of resources, using a recursive approach as they deepen their understanding of the research process.

The magnetic version of Hopscotch 4-AP Researchis a tangible to help your students  generate strong research designs for their AP Research projects.

What are the components of the magnetic kit?

  • Magnetic steps with QR-codes providing access to a set of interactive resources that facilitate the development of strong research designs.
  • A web-based version of Hopscotch 4-AP Research.
  • A web app that assists the generation of research design.
  • This set of directions to use Hopscotch 4-AP Research.

Requirements to use Hopscotch 4-AP Research
To use Hopscotch 4-AP Research, you will need a handheld device with a camera that can access the internet through either a wireless connection (Wifi) or a network.

magnetic Hopscotch

How does it work?

  1. After removing the magnets from the box,  attach them to any vertical metallic surface or arrange them on a flat area for display. We recommend organizing the nine magnets in the same order as depicted on the front of the box. Each magnet addresses a key component for generating strong research designs.
  2. Ask your students to use a mobile device to scan the QR-codes they will find on each of the magnetic steps of Hopscotch.
  3. In doing so, they will get access to a set of curated  interactive resources for each step so they can begin reflecting on the components of their own studies.
  4. As they check the resources, encourage them to jot ideas on the provided magnetic dry-erase labels.
  5. Remind your students that they can also scan the following QR-code to check the web-based version of Hopscotch 4-AP Research.

After filling out the form, students will receive an email with the chosen design.

Inflatable AirLab

What is the AirLab?
The IRML-AirLab is an affordable, inflatable, open-access educational toolkit developed by the Interactive Research Methods Lab in the Bagwell College of Education, 黑料网. This innovative toolkit is designed to make Research Literacy Accessible for all students. The IRML-AirLab, transforms any high school classroom into an engaging, interactive space where students can explore and understand the fundamentals of research through the responsive use of semantic AI resources. This innovative adaptation makes learning research methods accessible and captivating for high school students. By disrupting traditional teaching approaches, the AirLab fosters an experiential, hands-on environment that sparks curiosity and enthusiasm for the scientific process.

The IRML-AirLab leverages cutting-edge interactive resources from Hopscotch 4-AP Research and an , both developed by our team. These tools provide personalized, engaging learning experiences, empowering high school students to enhance their research literacy skills, build confidence in research methodologies, and prepare for college success.

airLab in action

How does the IRML-AirLab work?
High school students can pick any topic that sparks their curiosity. Air-Lab helps them build a rock-solid research plan around it, all while helping them learn the secrets of researching like a pro.

The AirLab, uses a recursive 9-step system based on the (think of it as a research map) (Jorr铆n-Abell谩n, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2022). With their phone or tablet, students launch an , and scan QR codes on each step/face of the inflatable Air-Lab. Each scan unlocks interactive resources, including semantic AI tools that guide them through the research process and ask questions they will need engage with critically. They can then jot down their ideas directly on Air-Lab's writable surface with a dry-erase marker, scan their ideas and the web app will automatically turn their handwritten notes into typed text. The app then turns the provided responses into a full research design in pdf format. Students and their teachers can revise, refine and update their design as much as they need.

Note: If interested in getting and using an AirLab please fill out the form you will find at the bottom of the page.

AI-based Web App

This AI-based web app works as a Learning Management System, and needs to be used in combination with Hopscotch 4-AP Research, the IRML-AirLab, or the magnetic kit of Hopscotch 4-AP Research.

Teachers can create a class, manage students and their research designs, provide feedback, and share with other teachers.

With their phone or tablet, students launch the web app, and scan the QR codes on each step of Hopscotch 4-AP Research, each step/face of the inflatable Air-Lab, or each step of the magnetic version of  Hopscotch 4-AP Research.

Each scan unlocks interactive resources, including semantic AI tools that guide them through the research process and ask questions they will need engage with critically.

They can then jot down their ideas on a piece of paper, directly on Air-Lab's writable surface with a dry-erase marker, or on the magnetic dry-erase labels provided with the magnetic kit of Hopscotch, scan their ideas and the web app will automatically turn their handwritten notes into typed text.

The app then turns the provided responses into a full research design in pdf format. Students and their teachers can revise, refine and update their design as much as they need.

Note: If interested in using the IRML Web App please fill out the form you will find at the bottom of the page.

Fill out the form below if interested in using the AirLab, the magnetic version of Hopscotch, or the Web App.
