For therapeutic electromagnetic sqaure waves:THE TIME IS IMPORTANT: Short therapy time stimulates, longer time exhausts the body. THE INTENSITY IS IMPORTANT: Strong therapy waves alert the body defenses and they are resisted, too weak has no effect. There is a "Therapeutic Intensity Range" between "strong" and " too weak" which has tremendous effects.
Thus the probable answer to our question is: Oscillating magnetic waves, applied too long, in just the right Therapeutic Intensity Range, possibly can exhaust the body and possibly deteriorate health.
( Discussion: White blood cells use "electro-philism" to find enemies, ie. the WBC's sense when the electromagnetic field of a structure is wrong or right. Alternating magnetic fields in just the right intensity range seem to make the little "white doggies" shake their electromagnetic sensing heads continuously, sort of like a guard dog who sneezes all the time: Clinically, monitored with deep tissue ultrasound scan, and for very short times this is a "neat trick" since it can be used to make "auto-immune" white blood cells sit back and reconsider the situation more accurately such as in Lupus or M.S.
For accelerated healing in diabetic skin ulcers or non healing wounds this effect applied "just right" can shake-up/ wake-up lazy repair cells. However continued too long accidently this effect could confuse the "guard dogs" to the point where they let true enemies slip by, or make repair cells dance rock and roll to the exhaustion point.)

In my clinics usual times are from one to three minutes for BEST healing effects as observed with deep tissue ultrasound scan patient by patient. Some patients achieve ACCEL healing in 60 seconds, some take as long as 180 seconds, and no one takes longer than 10-12 minutes at a frequency of only two cycles per second. My assumption for home testing was that if any appliance was putting out TIR (Therapeutic Intensity Range) then the human sitting near it for any time longer than 10 minutes was possibly receiving exhausting magnetic influences. { Sixty cycles per second times ten minutes far exceeds two cycles per second for 12 minutes. 36,000. verses 1,440. approximately, and as I mentioned the two cycles for 12 minutes was an extremely long time rarely needed. } THIS HOME EXPERIMENT TURNED INTO ANOTHER AMAZING JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY!

The detector is capable of detecting square waves or sine waves in ranges from 50 cycles per second to high frequencies in the 1,000 to 2,000 HRTZ and above ranges. RESULTS AT HOME:
Two of five microwaves put out TIR for distances of from one to three feet from the front door of the appliance. NO micro-wave leaks, just pure sloppy magnetism. Even turned "off" one television put out a TIR field from zero to THREE FEET turned OFF! Many extension cords put out small TIR fields within 4 inches of the cord WHEN NOTHING WAS HOOKED UP TO THE END OF THE CORD, but this disappeared when an appliance was hooked up and running. DIMMER STYLE LIGHTS WERE THE MOST STARTLING with a TIR field four feet from the bulbs at LOW light and six inches at HIGH light intensity. JUST THE REVERSE of what you might logically expect! LOW LIGHT means HIGH magnetic field output. One computer had TIR within two feet of the screen but ALSO TIR coming out of the keyboard and mouse! (I always felt a bit overly tired when I used that unit, so I was suspicious to begin with, SUSPICIONS CONFIRMED!) Our other computers had about six inch TIR fields at the screen but no TIR from keyboards or mice. Finally even a little blue glow watch had a TIR field across the face of the watch (but not along the metal protected back side) when the blue glow was lit.

I will be engaging experiments to observe if there are indeed deep tissue effects of some of the worst seeming offenders, so for now all I can state is that certain household appliances seem to output therapeutic intensity ranges of oscillating magnetic fields which vary inversely as the distance from the appliance. (At the threshold of field where the pen tester is first triggered the field intensity is in the therapeutic range. Closer to the appliance the field is more intense, further away the field is less intense. ) Theoretically these sine wave type fields generated by common household appliances may have effects on human tissues and immune systems, but that has not yet been proven in my labs or clinics. Since appliance output waves are usually sine waves shaped ( look like smooth rolling ocean waves on an oscilloscope) and wave shapes used in my clinic and generally employed in health care for therapy purposes are square shaped ( much faster rise time and fall time than sine waves, look like boxes on an oscilloscope) the connection between therapeutic intensity sine waves and therapeutic intensity therapy (square) waves is only hypothetical. An interesting book filled with research is Dr. Becker's work: The Body Electric (Electromagnetism and the Foundations of Life).
An interesting footnote is that the light dimmer system I tested output square wave forms similar to therapy wave forms when an oscilloscope probe was brought nearby. Apparently the "dimmer circuit" is really an on-off electronic flipper which simply flips on and off more and more rapidly as the light intensity is caused to rise by an operator of the control knob. Dimmer, ie. slower flips on and off, caused a stronger magnetic field effect involving squarish shaped wave forms. Digital equipment such as computer may or may not generate such square waves. Line voltage is sine wave shaped.
A second footnote is that the Japanese have developed an electric blanket design which rectifies the A.C. into D.C. before it heats the blanket or gets near a human, thus NO wave forms of any shape or frequency are developed by that type electric blanket.
One hopeful fact I discovered working with TENS (square wave therapies) is that DEEP tissue effects seem absent unless very low frequencies are employed, such as two cycles per second. since most line current oscillates at 50 to 60 cycles per second DEEP effects may indeed be difficult to obtain from accidental fields. YOU will have to draw your own conclusions.
Physics note: Dr. Becker in his work relating to Electromagnetic Pollution indicates findings similar to my own relating to accelerated healing, in that, too strong or too weak fields do not affect human tissue by orders of ten as much as "just right" field strength. The "just right range" however is much smaller than one might think, even miniscule compared to TENS usual and customary clinical applications. The term "Micro-amperage" or less would seem to apply. Thus Becker does state that a child living directly under a high tension power line (20 years ago) might experience no ill effects, but a child living 200 yards away from a high voltage power line may have an increased risk of leukemia. My research clinically revealed that strong magnetic field oscillations had little to no effect which were observable with ultrasound scanners, but tiny gentle seeming near nothing fields induced tremendous accelerated healing effects with immediately observable deep tissue changes.
NOTE: Modern power transmission lines with skilful use of grounding principles seem to NOT generate field effects. Modern inhouse wiring also seems to NOT generate any field effects which are detectable as within the Therapeutic Intensity Range. Magnetic field effects actually are INEFFICIENCIES in power line design since power is lost to the field generation effect, and thus efficient modern engineering avoids such effects as much as possible.

Disclaimer of warrantee & FDA statement: Since the connection between EMF accidental fields generating sine type wave shapes and any human health effects have not been proven the "pen detector" is being sold as a generic detector of magnetic oscillating fields and not as a health related device or in any sense a therapy device of any sort.
