The Safe Space training provides a curriculum that raises awareness of issues; establishes a common knowledge of identity development and support resources; and supports engaged members of the community in their daily work to create equity on and off campus.

About the Trainers

Safe Space trainers represent departments and divisions across 黑料网's campus. Trainers are allies of and / or members of the LGBTQ community who are dedicated to the mission of the Safe Space Program, and hope to create a comfortable and inclusive environment for all campus constituencies.

Request a Workshop

The Safe Space Initiative offers customized training for the campus community upon request. If your student organization, class, department, program, office, or unit would like to host a workshop, please use the links below to access the request form. 

  • Presentations for undergraduate students are co-facilitated by trained undergraduate student leaders engaged in the Safe Space Student Leadership Initiative.

    If your participants are primarily graduate students, please use the Staff/Faculty workshop request from below.

    Both a Basic and an Advanced workshop are available for students:

    • Student Safe Space Basic, 1 hour 15 minutes
      This workshop covers the basics of language, identity terms, legal environment, and campus resources for the GLBTIQ community.
      This workshop is ideal for classroom presentations.

    • Student Safe Space, 2 hours 30 minutes
      This workshop provides a more in-depth exploration of GLBTIQ communities, focusing on building awareness of climate, knowledge of experiences/challenges, and working towards allyship through action. Topics covered include those of the Basic workshop as well as institutional bias, microaggressions, and allyship.
      Because of the emphasis on allyship, participation in this workshop should be voluntary.

    Both of these workshops can be adapted to address the specific needs of your class or student organization.

  • Presentations for staff/faculty and graduate students are facilitated by the staff within GLBTIQ Student Programs

    Both a Basic and Advanced workshop are available for staff/faculty:

    • Safe Space Basic, 1 hour 45 minutes
      This workshop covers the basics of the language, identity terms, legal environment, identity development, and campus resources for the GLBTIQ community.
      This workshop is ideal for professional development.

    • Safe Space, 3 hours 30 minutes
      This workshop provides a more in-depth exploration of GLBTIQ communities, focusing on building awareness of climate, knowledge of experiences/challenges, and working towards allyship through action. Topics covered include those of the Basic workshop as well as institutional bias, microaggressions, and allyship.
      Because of the emphasis on allyship, participation in this workshop should be voluntary. Completing this training will certify participants as Safe Space Campus Allies, if they so choose.

    Both of these workshops can be adapted to address the specific needs of your class, unit, department, program, or college.
